6 + 2 days through the Italian flank of the Matterhorn from Valtournenche into Valpelline and across to Saint-Barthélemy and then through Val d'Ayas, sleeping in hotels and five different rifugi. Moderate endurance needed for first loop; no glacier or rope required on any day.
Pian dell'Arp

This is a loop from Valtournenche from one side of the mountain and then to the next. The views will be absolutely fantastic. All food is prepared and you'll be able to store your bagage at the hotel while you carry just the essentials.
No glacier travel, no rope work, no 4,000 m altitude. The cols top out around 2,800–3,000 m on marked hiking paths throughout so no need to be an expert, though you do need some stamina.

Day1On the trail
The refugioThe big climb day. A sustained ascent via Cignana and Mont Pancherot to a high refuge — the most vertical gain of the week, all in one go. Non-technical throughout.
Day2On the trail
The refugioShortest day by distance, descent-heavy. Cross the col early, then drop ~910 m into Valpelline to Rifugio Prarayer beside Lago di Place-Moulin.
Day3On the trail
The refugioTwo cols and a re-climb at altitude — hard by accumulation, not any one section. The Cuney hut sits beside the highest Marian sanctuary in Europe.
Day4On the trail
The refugioLongest day: a rolling traverse with steady up-and-down through three fenêtres. The drop off Fenêtre d'Ersaz is steep and loose — the week's most demanding descent.
Base5Back to base
The lodgeAn easy descent back to the base hotel. Knees rather than lungs. The end of Loop 1 — or the midpoint, if you're staying for Loop 2.
Day6On the trail
The refugioLifts carry you to 2,826 m; you walk up to the Cime Bianche col with Cervino behind and Monte Rosa ahead, then descend ~900 m into Val d'Ayas.
End7The way down
The lodgeVillages and lift hops: Antagnod, Le Moulin, a ridge crossing, and the car-free hamlet of Chamois. Cable car down, transfer back to base for the last night.
Check out the map of the first loop below. Valtournenche over the cols into Valpelline and Saint-Barthélemy.
